FMP Highlights: Sport Fish Monitoring • Generating LOTS of good information on mercury content of fish
2005 • Focus on the South Delta and San Joaquin • 1600 fish from 43 sites, coordinated with 23 more • Largemouth bass shown
2006 • Focus on the North Delta and Sacramento • 1400 fish from 47 sites, coordinated with 5 more
2007 • Focus on San Joaquin tributaries and reservoirs • 28 locations • Sampling completed in September
Completing the FMP • End date extension requested (Jan 2009) • SFEI Products • Manuscripts on project data • Interactive data mapping tool • Other data requests • Website – Easy public access to project data and related info • Largemouth bass model • Fact sheet(s) • Presentations
Completing the FMP • DPH Products • Manuscripts on project data • OEHHA Products • Safe eating guidelines for North Delta and Sacramento River • UC Davis Products • Fact sheet • Manuscripts on project data
Beyond the FMP • Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP): Bioaccumulation Monitoring • State Water Board • Approx $1 million per year (tentative) • Primarily sport fish • 2007 and 2008: Statewide lakes survey • 200 popular lakes • 50 random lakes • Mercury and other pollutants • Reports later this year on 2007 sampling
SWAMP Bioaccumulation Monitoring (cont) • Plan for 5 year cycle • 1) Lakes, 2) Lakes, 3) Coast, 4) Coast, 5) Rivers • Not “integrated monitoring” • OEHHA still has significant role • Not designed to develop safe eating guidelines
