Why Recycle Paper? • Paper comes from trees • Trees are very important to the environment. • Trees produce oxygen so we can breathe. • Trees are home to many animals and organisms. • Cutting down trees destroys habitats thus endangering animals.
Important Facts You Need to Know • 1 carton of paper ( 10 reams ) uses up ½ of a tree. • According to the U.S. EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) approximately 33% of all trash is made of paper products. • By weight more paper is recycled than glass, plastic, and aluminum combined.
How Can You Help? • Use computers whenever possible • Use paper wisely • Re-Use used paper • Write small but readable • Recycle
What Can Be Recycled? • Clean used paper • Magazines and catalogs • Paper scraps and shredded paper • Newspapers • Cardboard • Boxes
What NOT to Recycle • Dirty or wet tissues, toilet paper, paper towels, and napkins. • NO plastic or stickers. • NO garbage please only paper.
How Our Project Works • Put used paper in collection boxes • Every Tuesday a team member will collect your box • We record the weight of each classroom’s box every week until February 28th. • Which ever class collects the most paper based on weight at the end of the project will win the opportunity to plant a tree or trees on the school grounds for Earth or Arbor day in April.
