Our mission is to offer support and services to persons with disabilities and their communities. We offer assistance to increase not only their quality of life, but their quality of interaction and participation with one another.
Our Guiding Principles • To match the skills of an employee to the needs of an employer. • To job carve • To create friendships and a support system at a persons work. • To help our consumers obtain other supports needed for them to maintain employment
We offer: • Community Service Brokering. • Skills and Employment Assessments in addition to the “Discovery Process”. • Employment Placement. • Job Coaching. • Mediation between state/community agencies, employers and natural support system. • Assist with personal advocacy, locating volunteer work and social groups. • Trainings and seminars on public & private services, the benefits of employment, work incentive and tax benefits. • We assist individual in locating and writing to their Representatives and Senators.
Our Plan To Success Is.. 1-We set goals. 2- We offer AWESOME assessments. 3-We assist in obtaining other supports to help maintain employment. 6-We are kind, yet honest and blunt. We want mistakes to happen with us, the correction from us will be less sever and coated with empathy and support 7-We leave our clients and their employers with a personalized directory for future needs. 8-After we leave if needed, we will meet again 3X’s. If after that it can’t be resolved, we will assist in going back to VR.
THE DISCOVERY PROCESS We start at the job seekers home, while observing & listening, we look for clues about there interests, skills & tasks they like to do & are good at. We explore: - Work related opportunities and abilities. - The level of their skills. - Interests for employment. - How the person learns and prefers cueing. We pride ourselves on our ability of thinking outside the box and create or customize a good job fit. Example #1: If a job seeker tells us they want to work on airplanes, we go to the airport and see what it is exactly they like. Guess what - it was the uniform, so now we are able to locate a job within the airport, with the uniform they desired. Example #2: Knitting, and Morgan Stanley Financial
Locating Employment 1-Once again … we match the job seekers skills & interests to an employers needs. 2-We understand that employers are always hiring! But, only to those who can contribute to their company and generate a profit or service . 3- We assist employers in redirecting responsibilities and creating new jobs. 4- We utilize the relationships we have with business.
JOB COACHING,UCSS Style -Before an employee begins to work, a job coach will be taught by the employer, the tasks, routines, procedures and steps of the job to be preformed. -The job coach will then write out a step-by-step order of how to preform the task. If any modifications are needed, the job coach will seek advice and permission from the employer. -The job coach will then identify the best way to teach, motivate and cue the employee. -The job coach will help facilitate and create friendships. -2 week reviews will be conducted, tasks adjusted, new goals set
Employment Related Supports We pride yourself with our community directories and the ability to connect a person to the appropriate systems and supports around them. Some of those connections are: -benefit planning -supported work incentives -transportation -social interaction -medication management -personal care issues -communication methods -accommodations/modifications -level of daily on-job assistance or supervision -behavioral supports -mental health supports -housing supports -Vocational Rehabilitation services -PASS (Plan to Achieve Self–Support) -IRWE (Impairment Related Work Expense) -assistive Technology
Assessments We Do • Life Skills Assessment (Skills needed to obtain & maintain employment) • Service Assessment (what services a person has or can obtain) • Employment Skill Assessment (open ended questions as well as yes/no) • Behavioral Assessment and programs Awesome VR Summary At the end of each summary we list: -employment recommendations & contacts -work incentive and benefit planning information -tax benefits for the employer -community involvement, classes and groups -and other information we think may be helpful So no matter who the job coach or provider is, we give them a road map
Our Job Coaches have… • Action Plan worksheets (a check off sheet of who does what, and when it’s due) • Employment checklist (a questioner that allows an Employment Specialist the knowledge to customize a plan and maintain employment) • “Discovery Process” (this process was created by Cary Griffin, it teaches the Employment Specialist ways to obtain individual information about the job seeker, that they unintentionally do not disclosed in traditional assessments) • Handouts on employment websites and ideas.
We have a Unique Perspective Utah Community Support & Services is a Co-owner to the “Smoke House BBQ” restaurant in Orem Utah.Being a business owner we know first hand the desires, frustrations and expectations that businesses look for, avoid and what they need support with . We have learned what to do to, and are eager to help others.
