ABBRIEVIATED HISTORY OF GAZA • The land of CANAAN was promised by the Lord to ABRAHAM in Genesis 17:1-8 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty[a]; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. 2 Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” 3Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 “As for me, this is my covenant with you:You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram[b]; your name will be Abraham,[c] for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 THE WHOLE LAND OF CANAAN, WHERE YOU NOW RESIDE AS A FOREIGNER, I WILL GIVE AS AN EVERLASTING POSSESSION TO YOU AND YOUR DESCENDANTS AFTER YOU; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD.”

  5. History of gaza • Originally a Canaanite settlement, it came under the control of the ancient Egyptians for roughly 350 years; • Conquered by the Philistines, who made it one of the principal cities of their pentapolis in the 12th century BCE

  6. Gaza fell to King David about 1000 BCE. The Book of Judges and the Book of Joshua make reference to Gaza. Joshua was born in Egypt and died in the land of Canaan makes an especial reference to the Gaza, giving lands of Philistia (PHILISTINES) to the descendants of Abraham, TO THE TRIBE OF EPHRAIM, but later coming under the effective control and management of Judah, around 1240 BC. [2](Judges 6:4, I Chron. 7:28) • [3] That is for area now known as the 'Gaza strip' to be part of greater Judah-Israel.

MODERN GAZA • Although the first municipal council of Gaza was formed in 1893 under the chairmanship of Ali KhalilShawa, modern mayorship began in 1906 with his son Said al-Shawa, who was appointed mayor by Ottoman authorities.[67] • When World War I erupted in 1917, British forces were defeated by the Ottomans in the first and second Battle of Gaza. General Edmund Allenby, leading the Allied Forces, finally conquered Gaza in a third battle.[48]

British rule • Gaza after surrender to British forces, 1918 • After the war, the League of Nations granted quasi-colonial authority over former Ottoman territories to Great Britain and France; Gaza was included in the British Mandate of Palestine.[69] • The Jewish Quarter of Gaza was destroyed in the 1929 Palestine riots and most of Gaza's fifty Jewish families fled the city. In the 1930s and 1940s, Gaza underwent major expansion, with new neighborhoods, such as Rimal and Zeitoun being built along the coast, and the southern and eastern plains. Areas damaged in the riots also went through reconstruction. Most of the funding for these developments came from international organizations and missionary groups.[29]

  10. 1948 ISRAEL STATEHOOD • As a result of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Egypt obtained control of Gaza and the surrounding area. Gaza's growing population was augmented by an influx of refugees fleeing nearby cities, towns and villages that were captured by Israel[citation needed]. • From 1948 through 1959, Gaza was nominally under the jurisdiction of the All-Palestine Government, an entity established by the Arab League during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, purportedly to provide a Palestinian government for Palestine.[70] However, the members of the Government were removed to Cairo, and had little or no influence over events in Gaza.[70] Egyptian occupation of the Gaza Strip was interrupted for four months during the 1956 Suez Crisis.[71] • Upon the withdrawal of Israeli forces, Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser issued several reforms in Gaza, including the expansion of educational opportunities and civil services, provision of housing and the establishment of local security forces[citation needed]. As in Egypt, political activity in Gaza was severely curtailed, but the government-sponsored Arab National Union was established in place of the All-Palestine Government that Nasser abolished in 1959, which gave the city's citizens a greater voice in national politics[citation needed].

  11. 1967 SIX-DAY WAR • IN 1967, Israel was attacked by 6 ARAB NATIONS; Israel defeated them in 6 days • Gaza was thus occupied by Israel in the 1967 Six Day War after the defeat of a coalition of Arab armies. Under Israeli occupation, existing structures of administration in Gaza would be maintained and administrative tasks would continue to be executed by Palestinian civil servants. This was called the policy of "government but not administration.” But Arab resistance continued. • Organized armed struggle against Israel peaked between 1969 and 1971, but was largely crushed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) under the command of Ariel Sharon.[72]

THE GOLAN HEIGHTS • Internationally recognized as SYRIAN TERRITORY, the Golan Heights has been occupied and administered by Israel since 1967.[1] It was captured during the 1967 Six-Day War, establishing the Purple Line.[11] • On 19 June 1967, the Israeli cabinet voted to return the Golan to Syria in exchange for a peace agreement. Such overtures were dismissed by the Arab world with the Khartoum Resolution on September 1, 1967.[12][13] • In the aftermath of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel agreed to return about 5% of the territory to Syrian civilian control. This part was incorporated into a demilitarised zone that runs along the ceasefire line and extends eastward. THIS STRIP IS UNDER THE MILITARY CONTROL OF UN PEACE KEEPING FORCES.

  14. THE WEST BANK • From 1517 to 1917 the West Bank was part of the Ottoman Empire. Turkey, successor state to the Ottoman Empire, renounced its territorial claims in 1923 signing the Treaty of Lausanne and the area now called the West Bank became an integral part of the British Mandate for Palestine. During the Mandate period Britain had no right of sovereignty, which was held by the people under the mandate.[26] •  In 1947 the UN General Assembly recommended that the area that became the West Bank become part of a future Arab state, but this proposal was opposed by the Arab states at the time. In 1949, Jordan occupied the West Bank and subsequently annexed it.[citation needed] However its claim was never recognized by the international community.[citation needed]IN 1967 ISRAEL CAPTURED THE WEST BANK FROM JORDAN IN THE SIX-DAY WAR.

BACK TO GAZA:THE OSLO ACCORDS OF 1993 • Palestinian Authority[edit] • In September 1993, leaders of Israel and the PLO signed the Oslo Accords calling for Palestinian administration of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank town of Jericho, which was implemented in May 1994. • Israeli forces withdrew from Gaza, leaving a new Palestinian National Authority (PNA) to administer and police the city.[12] Led by Yasser Arafat, the PNA chose Gaza as its first provincial headquarters. The newly established Palestinian National Council held its inaugural session in Gaza in March 1996.[29]

  17. 2005 ISRAELI SETTLEMENTS WITHDRAW FROM GAZA • In 2005 the Israeli cabinet withdrew its military and settlements from the Gaza Strip including the Philadelphi Route, a narrow strip adjacent to the border with Egypt, as part of its unilateral disengagement plan. • Since the Palestinian organization, Hamas won a surprise victory in the Palestinian elections of 2006, it has been engaged in a violent power struggle with rival Palestinian organization Fatah.[76]

Hamas TAKES CONTROL OF GAZA:THEY START TO FIRE MISSILES INTO ISRAEL • In 2007, Hamas overthrew Fatah forces in the Gaza Strip and Hamas members were dismissed from the PNA government in the West Bank in response. Currently, Hamas has de facto control of the city and Strip.[76] Israel bombarded Gaza and nearby cities in the Gaza Strip in an air and ground assault codenamed "Operation Summer Rains" with the aim to end continued Qassam rocket attacks launched by Hamas and Islamic Jihad, and to secure the release of an Israeli soldier captured by Palestinian militants.[77] • .[78] On December 27–28, 2008 Israel commenced air strikes against Gaza, codenamed "Operation Cast Lead".[79] Israel stated the strikes were in response to repetitive rocket and mortar attacks from the Gaza Strip into Israel since 2005, while the Palestinians stated that they were responding to Israel's military excursions and the blockade of the Gaza Strip. • By January 3, 2009, Israeli tanks and infantry were invading Gaza with air and naval support. Thirteen Israelis, including ten soldiers were killed, while, according to Palestinian sources, a total of more than 1,300 Palestinians were killed and 5,500 injured. In addition 4,000 buildings were destroyed and 20,000 damaged throughout the Gaza Strip.[80]

  21. Israel version (as of July 17, 2014) • As of today, Israel has conducted 1,653 strikes into Gaza in response to Hamas’s 1,241 rockets launched from Gaza, which have killed one Israeli civilian. The Palestinian death toll now stands at 214. That means that for every 8 strikes carried out by Israel, one Gazan dies—a number which includes combatants.

  22. HAMAS(Khaledmashal – Leader) • Hamas (Arabic: حماس‎ Ḥamās, "enthusiasm", an acronym of حركة المقاومة الاسلامية Ḥarakat al-Muqāwamah al-ʾIslāmiyyah, "Islamic Resistance Movement") is a PalestinianSunniIslamic[7] organization, with an associated military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades,[8] in the Palestinian territories and elsewhere in the Middle East including Qatar.[9] •  Since 2007, it has governed the Gaza Strip, after it won a majority of seats in the Palestinian Parliament in the 2006 Palestinian parliamentary elections[10] and defeated theFatah political organization in a series of violent clashes. Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by Israel, the United States,[11] Canada,[12] the European Union,[13][14] Jordan,[15] Egypt[16] and Japan.[17] In other states, however, including Iran, Russia,[18] Turkey,[19] China[20][21][22][23] and many Arab nations, it is not.

  23. HAMAS CHARTER PREAMBLE: 'Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it.‘ ARTICLE 6:'The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinguished Palestinian movement, whose allegiance is to Allah, and whose way of life is Islam. It strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of Palestine

  24. HAMAS CHARTER ARTICLE 11: 'The land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf [Holy Possession] consecrated for future Moslem generations until Judgment Day. No one can renounce it or any part, or abandon it or any part of it.‘ ARTICLE 13: Palestine is an Islamic land... Since this is the case, the Liberation of Palestine is an individual duty for every Moslem wherever he may be.’

  25. Hamas charter ARTICLE 15: The Call to Jihad: ------------------ 'The day the enemies usurp part of Moslem land, Jihad becomes the individual duty of every Moslem. In the face of the Jews' usurpation, it is compulsory that the banner of Jihad be raised.‘ ARTICLE 33: 'Ranks will close, fighters joining other fighters, and masses everywhere in the Islamic world will come forward in response to the call of duty, loudly proclaiming: 'Hail to Jihad!'. This cry will reach the heavens and will go on being resounded until liberation is achieved, the invaders vanquished and Allah's victory comes about.’

  26. HAMAS CHARTER – NO TO PEACE • ARTICLE 13: • '[PEACE] INITIATIVES, AND SO-CALLED PEACEFUL SOLUTIONS AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES ARE IN CONTRADICTION TO THE PRINCIPLES OF THE ISLAMIC RESISTANCE MOVEMENT... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... THERE IS NO SOLUTION FOR THE PALESTINIAN PROBLEM EXCEPT BY JIHAD. INITIATIVES, PROPOSALS AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES ARE BUT A WASTE OF TIME, AN EXERCISE IN FUTILITY.'

  27. HAMAS AGAINST ALL JEWS AND CERTAIN ORGANIZATIONS • ARTICLE 7: 'THE DAY OF JUDGMENT WILL NOT COME ABOUT UNTIL MOSLEMS FIGHT JEWS AND KILL THEM. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O MOSLEM, THERE IS A JEW HIDING BEHIND ME, COME AND KILL HIM.' ARTICLE 22 • 'The enemies have been scheming for a long time ... and have accumulated huge and influential material wealth. With their money, they took control of the world media... With their money they stirred revolutions in various parts of the globe... They stood behind the French Revolution, the Communist Revolution and most of the revolutions we hear about... With their money they formed secret organizations - such as the FREEMASONS, ROTARY CLUBS and the LIONS - which are spreading around the world, in order to destroy societies and carry out Zionist interests... They stood behind World War I ... and formed the League of Nations through which they could rule the world. They were behind World War II, through which they made huge financial gains... There is no war going on anywhere without them having their finger in it.'

  28. U.N. Refugee Agency Gives Rockets to HamasWeapons found in a Gaza school last week were turned over to authorities: HamasBy Staff Notes|July 21, 2014 12:21 PM • So, when UNRWA, the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, announced THAT IT HAD FOUND A CACHE OF 20 MISSILES BENEATH A U.N.-SPONSORED SCHOOL IN GAZA LAST WEEK, it was hard to credit the usual pro-Israeli line that depicts the U.N. agency as working hand-in-glove with Hamas. Yes, some U.N schools and other facilities have been used to teach hatred for the Jewish state, and for Hamas summer camps and the like. And yes, U.N. officials like Special Rapporteur for Palestine Richard Falk had a long history of making statements that left little doubt about where his sympathies lay. But Falk’s term as Special Rapporteur ended earlier this year, so it made sense that UNRWA might be turning over a new leaf.

UNRWA FINDS ANOTHER ROCKET STOCKPILE IN GAZA SCHOOL UNRWA FINDS ANOTHER ROCKET STOCKPILE AT ONE OF ITS SCHOOLS IN GAZA, THE THIRD TIME SINCE THE BEGINNING OF OPERATION PROTECTIVE EDGE. • The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) announced on Tuesday that another rocket stockpile has been found at one of its schools in Gaza, Breitbart reported. • This instance marks the third time since the beginning of OperationProtective Edge that a weapons arsenal has been found at an UNRWA school in Gaza. • UNRWA has yet to place blame on any individuals or organizations for placing the weapons stockpile within a children’s school. The UN body refused to do so on the past two previous occasions as well. • UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunness condemned those responsible for placing civilians in harm's way by storing the rockets at the school.

WORDS OF A HAMAS LEADER: • The following is the full text of the comments by Hamas representative FathiHammad months before the war, articulating the Hamas ideology to use civilians as human shields for Hamas fighters: • "For the Palestinian people death has become an industry, at which women excel and so do all people on this land: the elderly excel, the Jihad fighters excel, and the children excel. Accordingly [Palestinians] created a human shield of women, children, the elderly and the Jihad fighters against the Zionist bombing machine, as if they were saying to the Zionist enemy: 'We desire death as you desire life.'"

Arab Leaders Silent • CAIRO — Battling Palestinian militants in Gaza two years ago, Israel found itself pressed from all sides by unfriendly Arab neighbors to end the fighting. • Not this time. • After the military ouster of the Islamist government in Cairo last year, Egypt has led a new coalition of Arab states — including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan — that has effectively lined up with Israel in its fight against Hamas, the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip. That, in turn, may have contributed to the failure of the antagonists to reach a negotiated cease-fire even after more than three weeks of bloodshed.

FRIENDLY ARAB STATES • “The Arab states’ loathing and fear of political Islam is so strong that it outweighs their allergy to Benjamin Netanyahu,” the prime minister of Israel, said Aaron David Miller, a scholar at the Wilson Center in Washington and a former Middle East negotiator under several presidents. “I have never seen a situation like it, where you have so many Arab states acquiescing in the death and destruction in Gaza and the pummeling of Hamas. The silence is deafening.”

Gen. Benny Gantz, said Israel's assault on Gaza's Hamas rulers was being "intensified" after three weeks of fighting that have cost more than 1,100 lives.
