2013 NeSA Testing Window March 25 – May 3, 2013 The window is the same for online and paper/pencil administrations, including the NeSA-Alternate Assessments.

Online Testing – All Students • All students will be tested online – except those who • Have an IEP or 504 Plan that requires paper/pencil testing; • Are English Language Learner (ELL) students with an accommodation that allows paper/pencil testing (not necessarily a Spanish translation of the test – as Spanish is also available online); • Are contracted to an agency that does not allow internet access; • Are administered the NeSA-Alternate Assessment for Reading, Mathematics, or Science.
Scheduling the Test • NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and Science • Two sessions for each subject • Untimed • Do not generally exceed 90 minutes • Flexibility during the 6-week window • Make-ups are required • Recommend scheduling early in the window • Recommend avoiding Mondays and Fridays
Accommodated Materials • Online versions of the NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and Science tests are available in Spanish. • Braille and large print versions of the test booklets are available for NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and Science. • Spanish translations of NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and Science paper/pencil test booklets are available.
Accommodations • Accommodations for students with IEP or 504 Plans and English Language Learners must be reported in Management Tools > Student Editor • See NDE website for the Approved Accommodations Document. • http://www.education.ne.gov/Assessment/NeSA_Accommodations.htm
Procedures for Districts withSome Paper/Pencil Testers • All students contained in the NSSRS file will be loaded into the NeSA online testing system and listed in Student Editor. • Do NOT edit/change online records for students taking a paper/pencil test – complete applicable fields on the answer sheet. • Do NOT distribute Test Session Tickets to students taking the paper/pencil test – if printed, destroy them securely.
Prepare Students for Testing • Inform students of the scheduled test sessions in advance. • Explain to the students why they are being given the test and how the results will be used. • Students should realize that doing their best is important.
Prepare Testing Location • Plan ahead – check schedules. • Organize test materials. • Provide a testing location with good lighting and comfortable seating and as free of outside disturbances as possible. • Remove visual aids/clues. • Post a TESTING IN PROGRESS sign.
Test Security • Tests are not to be viewed by anyone prior to testing. • No screenshots or video recordings may be made of the NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and Science online tests. • No coaching or feedback with regard to content. • Student talking or sharing of responses should be prohibited. • Move around the testing site and ensure that students are following instructions.
Test Security • Restrict electronic devices (e.g., cell phones, iPODS, Palm Pilots, PDAs, wristwatches with electronic displays, calculators, MP3 players, etc.) • Recommend one assistant/proctor per 12 students, in addition to Test Administrator. • Students must not be left alone with test. • Students cannot take test materials out of the testing site. • See test administration manual for comprehensive test security information.

Online Testing > Management Tools > Data Tools > Add a Student • Add a Student • Students can be added any time after Management Tools opens and before the Testing Window ends(March 4 – May 3). • If students are added after Test Session Tickets have been printed, tickets for individual students can be printed. • Make every effort to match new student data exactly to the data on file in NSSRS.

Please make changes in NSSRS through template submissions.
Student Editor > Identification • Student ID and Name fields are taken directly from NSSRS. NDE will review all mismatches.
Student Editor > Location • District-level users can change a student’s school within the district. • School and grade are taken directly from NSSRS. NDE will review all mismatches.
Student Editor > Demographics • Demographic fields are taken directly from NSSRS. NDE will review all mismatches.
Student Editor > Not Tested • A Not Tested code MUST be selected by the end of the testing window for any student in the system that does not take a NeSA-Reading, Mathematics, and/or Science test.
Student Editor > Alternate or Spanish Assessment • Students indicated in NSSRS as Alternate Assessment will be pre-flagged in Student Editor for each subject. • Test Session Tickets do not print for students flagged as Alternate Assessment. • Alternate Assessment flag may be changed in Student Editor.
Student Editor > Alternate or Spanish Assessment • Flag students who require a Spanish translation for Reading, Mathematics, and/or Science before printing tickets to get correct Test Session Tickets.
Student Editor > Accommodations – IEP/504 & Visual • Flag Visual Accommodations for students before printing Test Session Tickets. • Visual Accommodations tools are a form of Content Presentation accommodation. • Indicate other accommodations by the end of the testing window for any student in the system that takes a test with accommodations.
Student Editor > Linguistic Support - ELL • LEP/ELL Eligible should be checked on the Demographic tab for any students who receive Linguistic Support. • Indicate Linguistic Support for any student in the system that takes a test with accommodations.

Manage Testing > Print Tickets • Print Tickets • Available Monday, March 4. • Print tickets for both Test Sessions. • Print tickets for all three subjects. • Tickets are secure test materials. • Tickets will print for students who are taking the paper/pencil version of a test, and for students marked with a Not Tested code – securely destroy these tickets after printing. • No tickets will print for Alternate Assessment students. • Recommend printing tickets one week priorto initial test session.
