INCIDENT A driver in a Rig Move Convoy entered a dust cloud and lost site of the vehicle in front. The Convoy had come to an unexpected halt and the driver collided with the vehicle in front which had stopped briefly. ROOT CAUSES: Failure to follow the Dust Code and Defensive Driving techniques. Lateral Learning When a vehicle travelling in the same direction is creating a dust cloud that makes it difficult to see the road ahead, drivers must: Slow down; Keep a safe distance (at least four seconds) from the rear of the dust cloud, far enough back to be able to identify and stop safely if the vehicle in front was to stop suddenly; Never enter the dust cloud; Never overtake in the dust cloud. All drivers follow the Dust Code.
