  1. CST Testing May 3-May 17, 2010 You are a STAR!

  2. Welcome to STAR SURGE! SURGE has moved! For this week, and this week only, SURGE has moved! This new STAR SURGE will help you get ready for the CST STAR testing the first two weeks of May! This is the room in which you will take the CST STAR tests! Welcome!

  3. What is the CST? The CSTs are a major component of the STAR program. The CSTs are a series of tests developed by California educators and test developers specifically for California. They measure students' progress toward achieving California's state-adopted academic content standards.

  4. How is it Scored? The CSTs are scored based on the percentage of questions you answered correctly, just like any other test you take in school. However, CSTs are not graded like regular tests. Your results on the CST will be reported as Advanced, Proficient, Basic, Below Basic, or Far Below Basic (just like the math and English benchmarks ). Proficient means that you are at grade level!

  5. Why is the CST important? NOW IN THE FUTURE Good test taking practices can help you get a job and even a driver’s license! Colleges and vocational training programs require the passing of basic skills tests The more consistent your scores, the more likely they are to be accurate • Measure of how much you have learned • Can be used for placement the next year (especially true if you are going into high school!) • Helps to determine if you will have an elective next year • Used in conjunction with your grades to see if you need any extra help or support in school

  6. Do you have to take the CST?

  7. What can I do to make sure I do my BEST? • Try! • Use good test-taking strategies! • Be confident! • Be positive! • Stay focused! And most importantly THINK!
