The Transparency agenda is a key commitment in the Coalition agreement. • It focuses on three aims of Open Data: • Improved accountability of government • Better public services • Economic Growth derived from open data businesses Transparent Government
1. Accountability of Government • We aim to be one of the most transparent governments in the world • highest paid Civil Servant Salaries • COINS database • Central Government Spending • all roles and their cost across the Civil Service • Publishing Transparent Government
2. Public Service Reform • By becoming a supplier and consumer of data and data services government can improve its performance • Prescription data • GP ratings • Crime maps • Publishing Transparent Government
3. Economic Growth • Open data can have an immense impact on the growth of the economy • Weather data • Real time strategic Road Network data • Real time train timetable information • Publishing Transparent Government
Support and Governance • Two letters from the Prime Minister to Cabinet outlining specific transparency commitments • Public Sector Transparency Board, chaired by Francis Maude, providing independent advice and challenge to government • Nine established sector board (e.g. Crime and Justice, Health, Welfare) • Working level departmental practitioners’ group – share and exchange information and best practice Transparent Government
