  2. Author and background information • Author: George Orwell Born Eric Arthur Blair in Motihari, Bengal, India, in 1903, George Orwell, novelist, essayist and critic, went on to become best known for his novels Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.

  3. Theme • Don’t let peer pressure control your actions.

  4. Plot • A Burma police officer is being picked on because he was a different country then he became the one who had to control an elephant that went on a rampage while in musk and then he was needed to be put down because of how the elephant was acting.

  5. Characters • Young Englishmen • Mahout • Sub inspector • Policeman

  6. Conflict • An elephant has went on rampage while in musk and a in Burma.

  7. Resolution • A British Policeman had to put the elephant down by shooting it because of the destruction.

  8. Memorable Line • “When the white man turns tyrant, it is his own freedom that he destroys”

  9. Questions • What kind of elephant was it? • Why did they have to shoot elephant? • Where did the elephant come from?

  10. Interesting • The elephant escaped and he was had to be put down by being shot.
