Methodological note • What are S&T (Science and Technology) fields of study? • According to the Canberra Manual (OECD, 1995), there are 7 broad fields of study in S&T: 1)natural sciences, 2)engineering and technology, 3)medical sciences, 4)agricultural sciences, 5)social sciences, 6)humanities, 7)other fields. • They can be divided into 21 fields of study (cf. ISCED 76). • We follow the framework used in She Figures (EU, 2009), and only compare data in the first 6 fields.
