  3. The Tale • Nicholas is in love with Alisoun • John is super controlling • Nicholas and Alisoun make a plan to have sex • Absolon gets in the way of Nicholas and Alisoun • Nicholas gets his ass branded • John gets screwed • Alisoun gets away with everything

  4. The Miller in Real Life • Late 1300’s early 1400’s • “Miller” refers to a person who works at a mill • A mill is designed to grind down cereal crops into flower • One the oldest occupation • Wealth for low class • Still low class

The Miller • Drunk • Tries to tell a better story than the Knight • People try not to listen • Believes a man can be manipulated by a woman • Also believes that neither man or woman have complete control in their relationship • Uses his drunkenness and his story to start an argument • Manipulates the entire crew • He does that because he can • Is similar to Alisoun because they are both manipulative
