  1. Oh Come, Let Us Worship A Study of Worship in the Psalms

  2. Worship Challenges Today • Some will not attend the worship service because of misplaced priorities • Some will attend, but are bored with the ritual • Some will attend and be excited, but will engage in unauthorized things • Is it possible to be present, be excited, and do things in an authorized way? Yes!

  3. Worship with Reverence • Psalm 5:7-8 • We worship God in “fear” with reverence (see also 89:7; 107:32; 112:1) • When we worship in reverence we will not be “misbehaving” during the service; irreverence will hurt ourselves and the local church

  4. Worship with Reverence • Psalm 26:8-12 • We worship with a great love to be with God over all others • When we worship in love we will look forward to assembling, nothing will keep us away; a cold (lukewarm), formalistic presence will hurt ourselves and the local church

  5. Worship in Holiness • Psalm 29:1-2; 96:7-9 • We worship God in “holy array” as we come to a holy God in holiness (see also 99:3, 5, 9) • When we worship in holiness we will worship with a life that is pure and right, set apart to God; impurity of life will hurt ourselves and the local church

  6. Worship Regularly • Psalm 34:1 • We worship regular and permanent resolve (see also 52:9; 113:3; 104:33; 146:2) • When we worship regularly we will stay spiritually strong and we can be counted upon to serve (Psa. 134:1-2); absenteeism and irregularity will hurt ourselves and the local church

  7. Worship in Truth • Psalm 81:8-13 • We worship the one, true God, not a “foreign god” • When we worship the one, true God, we make sure we worship in truth (Jn. 4:24; Eph. 4:4-6; Col. ); erroneous worship will hurt ourselves and the local church (Mt. 15:9; Acts 17:23; Col. 2:23)

  8. Worship Joyfully & Thankfully • Psalm 100:1-5 • We worship joyfully and thankfully because we truly understand and appreciate what God has generously done for us (see also 95:1-6) • When we worship with joy and gratitude we will not worship with a “Do I have to?” approach; drudgery and complaint will hurt ourselves and the local church

  9. Worship Whole-Heartedly • Psalm 111:1 • We worship with the “whole heart” (see also 86:12; 132:1-7; 138:1-2) • When we worship with the “whole heart” we will be enthusiastic and actively engaged in all the acts of worship and not be bored; apathy and indifference will hurt ourselves and the local church
