INX System • Capable of 50,000 sessions; 1400 CPS • Service Ports: Virtual IPs for signaling/media • HA designed for non-stop operations Service Ports IPs owned by Active VSXi
Wholesale Termination • High capacity: up to 1400 calls per second / node • Flexible low cost geo-redundancy • Intelligent routing: includes Jurisdictional routing on LRN & PAI • ENUM, Do-not-Call, and LNP dipping • Can handle 30M+ routes • Intuitive GUI for rapid implementation / training • Optional transcoding by route selection Do-Not-Call ROME LNP Wholesale Termination Partner IPX Carrier VSXi VSXi 2G or 3G Mobile Service Provider 4G VoLTE Provider IP Network Wholesale Termination Carrier Fixed Line Service Provider ASP / Cloud Service Provider Note: Distributed , geo-redundant deployment shown above.
Business Voice & SIP Trunking • Subscriber and network-facing session control in a single system • Highly flexible deployment options to support distributed network architectures • Commercially deployed with leading feature / application servers / IPPBXs • Proxy registrations or can act as Registrar for feature server(s) • Billing and charging support via CDRs • Support Lawful Intercept / CALEA Wholesale Termination Partner 2 Wholesale Termination Partner 1 VSXi Feature Server (e.g., BroadWorks) IP Network Network-Facing Session Control Subscriber-Facing Session Control VSXi VSXi Business Communications Provider Facilities-Based Access Network Over-the-Top Service Delivery Hosted Subscriber Hosted Subscriber IP PBX IP PBX Note: Distributed deployment shown above. Subscriber and network-facing functions can be managed on single VSXi system.
VSXi for Enhanced Applications • Subscriber and network-facing session control • Support Radius for pre-paid and other real-time billing applications • Commercially deployed with IVR and other enhanced communications apps • High CPS for inbound / outbound call center / dialer applications Wholesale Termination Partner 1 Wholesale Termination Partner 2 VSXi Enhanced Services / Prepaid Server Network-Facing Session Control IP Network Subscriber-Facing Session Control VSXi Over-the-Top Service Delivery Note: Distributed deployment shown above. Subscriber and network-facing functions can be managed on single VSXi system.
Key Feature: DDOS Protection • Automatically enforced blacklists for remote IPs • Intelligently applied to IP addresses or Subscriber, based on feature server response • Controllable timers allowing various block periods • Applies to Registrations, Invites, Subscribes, Option polls and protocol errors VSXi VSXi VSXi DDOS Attacks DDOS Attacks Co-Location 1 Co-Location 2 Co-Location 3 Public Border Points Provides Network Topology Protection and Resource Hiding
Key Feature: Call Admission Zone • Customer and vendor call admission control enforced across all network elements on Trunk ID basis • Can manage CPS, RPS and session count across pool of VSXi systems • Configured in single GUI screen Example: CPS capped at 100 cps for TID 10,000 – managed across Co-Lo 1, 2, & 3 Trunk ID 10,000 VSXi VSXi VSXi Co-Location 1 Co-Location 2 Co-Location 3 Shared Pool of Sessions Pooling of CPS, RPS and Session Count per Trunk ID
Key Feature: Network License • VSXi “Network License Zone” shares a pool of session capacity across a network of VSXi hardware • Better support for geographic redundancy and distributed hardware • Shown below: 6 nodes in 3 high availability pairs supporting 3 interconnect points - pool of sessions shared across all nodes VSXi VSXi VSXi Co-Location 1 Co-Location 2 Co-Location 3 Network License Zone Session license capacity shared across all 6 nodes
Network License Example • Enables more efficient use of session capacity across nodes • Shown below: network snapshot of traffic across 6 nodes that are licensed for a total of 5000 sessions Network Traffic Snapshot 750 sessions 750 sessions 3000 sessions VSXi VSXi VSXi Co-Location 1 Co-Location 2 Co-Location 3 Network License Zone • NLZ loading is 4500 sessions at snapshot • Each co-location better able to handle localized traffic bursts using shared pool of buffer capacity
Modular System Design • VSXi functionality can be distributed across specialized server hardware (left) or deployed on an integrated server (right) • Offers service providers maximum flexibility and scalability HRS: Route Management INX: Call Processing MSX: Media Processing MST: Media Transcoding HRS INX for Sub Access or limited routing apps Query INX SIP & H.323 Traffic Signaling Plane + Media Plane Signaling Plane SIP & H.323 Traffic INX RTP Traffic H.248 RTP Traffic MSX Media Plane MST
GSMA IPX Operator • Enables intelligent SIP-I session switching and media optimization with Pathfinder ENUM
MST2 Transcoder • 1U server with Sansay DSP card • Licensed on a network wide basis • Transcoding session count is tracked along with but separate from NLZ • Provides added value for applications: • Long tail echo cancellation up to 728 msec • DTMF translations • T.38 translations
MST2 Transcoder (cont) • Highly scalable yet low cost per port • Add up to 4000 sessions per 1U rack space • N:1 redundant and NLZ make for lower TCO • Integrated into TID config for easy routing • Makes routing independent of codec concerns • Redundant RTP (RRTP) for best OTT quality • Video transcoding supported at limited size
TSX Transcoder • Integrated INX/MST2 for easier deployment • Has a new system type with limited functions • This is similar to Peering Edition; ie, lower cost • Still supports NLZ for redundancy and building distributed networks • HA Redundant for highly reliable POPs • All DSP (audio) aspects are same as MST2
Introducing ROME • HRS – High-speed Route Server • Centralized management of Routes • Simplifies route management • Improves system operating performance • Expands number of routes operators can manage • Enables more sophisticated routing • Enables simple & flexible jurisdictional determination • Supports up to 50 alternative routes
ROME Operations • Stateless server, routes held in RAM for extremely fast processing • Queried via SIP protocol • Route uploads do not affect system CPS • Server updated / managed via GUI and SOAP • VSXi can recurse with TID mode • Provides compatibility with variety of policy servers (Nuestar Pathfinder, ATT, etc)
Functioning in the Network • ROME can be added to existing VSXi network • ROME typically deployed at Super POP or core network hub • ROME deployed in LB mode with Active-Active systems • Can also be deployed in geo-redundant config ROME Accepts queries and provides routes across INX nodes “Master-Slave” Update & Manage Route Management Layer ROME ROME Query & Route Selection INX INX INX INX Session Processing and Media Management Layer MSX MSX
