Protest, Crisis and Rebellion in England, 1536-88 • Unit 3 will be assessed by a written examination of two hours in length • You will be required to answer two questions, one from section A and one from section B • Section A will be marked out of a total of 30 marks. There will be a choice of two questions. Spend approx. 50 minutes on one of them. • Section B will be marked out of a total of 40 marks. There will be a potential choice of two questions. Spend approx. 70 minutes on one of them.
Protest, Crisis and Rebellion in England, 1536-88 • In section (a), the essay questions will have an analytical focus that will require candidates to reach a substantiated judgement on a historical issue or problem • In section (b), candidates will be provided with five or six unseen secondary sources totalling approximately 350-400 words per question. These sources will be made available with the examination paper
Part (b) question • The question will require candidates to compare the provided source material while exploring an issue of historical debate, and to reach substantiated judgements in the light of their own knowledge and understanding of the issues of interpretation and controversy
Part (b) question Associated controversies: • How seriously did rebellion challenge the authority of the Tudor state in the years 1536-69? • How significant were the developments that took place in the role and power of parliaments in the years 1566-88?
