The programme commenced in 2008/2009 Assessment of guideline development processes Award of the “accreditation mark” 70+ organisations have applied to date, working with more than another 200 organisations NICE Accreditation: What is it?
NICE Accreditation: Why do it? • To help health and social care professionals identify the most trusted sources of guidance developed using critically evaluated high quality processes • To drive up the quality of information used by health and social care professionals in decision making and quality standards • This in turn should ultimately result in improved patient outcomes
NICE Accreditation: Who is it for? • NICE accredits guidance and advice for professionals • Eligibility definition: 'systematically developed statements to guide decisions about appropriate health and social care to improve individual and population health and wellbeing.'
Accreditation criteria • Based on AGREE II • Scope and purpose • Stakeholder involvement • Rigour of development • Clarity and presentation • Applicability • Editorial independence
Transparent all information available online and committee meetings in public Unbiased with oversight by an independent Advisory Board Initially focused on guidelines: sources of evidence • Evidence based: standardised validated criteria and processes Processes will be accredited NICE accreditation programme NICE Accreditation Programme Key aim: to identify trusted sources of information and drive up standards Kitemark: well-known and recognised
