  2. History of Transition Year • Introduced in 1973 • TY programme in D.L.S. since 1995 • Approx. 25,000 students currently in TY • Offered in 70% of Post primary schools • Certified by Department of Education

  3. What is Transition Year? • Transition Year is a one year programme which provides a bridge to enable students make the transition from Junior to Senior cycle. • It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence.

  4. TY Mission “To promote the personal, social, educational and academic development of pupils and to prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible member of society”.

  5. Aims Transition Year in De La Salle college aims: • To give students opportunities to discover and develop their own individual gifts and strengths. • To assist each individual to develop himself as a person. • To help students become a more independent learner. • To help students prepare for adult life.
