Music design for a playground • The playground is situated in the heart of the city • The play area is for children in the age of 2 to 12 APFRSL - Association pour la Promotion de la Formation et de la Recherche Montpellier, France
General topic = music instruments Strange form – for doing what?
Interesting perspective :How can children appropriate such an equipment?
Observation : the music design leads to an unritual use … … after having discovered that there is no sound coming out …
Observation : … but there are equipments to create different sounds.
Behaviour observations … … show different approaches to discover the space and the equipments.
The youngest children are surprised and disappointed when they arrive for the first time on the playground
Older children get quickly familiar with the music design : • They search if they can listen to music sounds • Then they start to play with the equipment in a completely free creative way.
The environment of the playground A duck pond close to the playground
