Agenda • Contract • Open House • Prep for pilot • Org structure and role settings • In the news: ePresence; Blackboard
Contract – to be resolved • Period of commitment • Hold price for term (max. of 5% increase/yr); if leave early penalty of 50% annual fees/yr • Guiding principles for access and security • Hosting (next slide)
Hosting • Planning one year trial of D2L hosting • New information on recovery • Recovery time objective – 7 days • Recovery point objective – 3 days • Can upgrade RTO and RPO • Going to 6hrs/4hrs would double our hosting fees. Asking IST-CSS for advice.
Open House • Tuesday, April 19th, EIT1015 almost full • Good questions and comments • Watcardphoto integration • Pilot courses chosen/timing for Fall/1st year students • Notification re: Spring courses in Bulletin. • IP concerns re: hosting • Excitement about partnership opportunities
Prep for Spring Pilot • 12 courses • Single sign-on with CAS integrated • SSO needs to be thought through! • Roster loads - bulk tool (not automated) • Training – Admin and instructor training for staff completed • Numerous subgroups meeting
Training and support plans • Support course moves from ANGEL • Training: • Group training in Faculties/departments • Some “just in time” training options • Videos • Documentation • Office hours by Faculty Liaisons • As needed, student overviews in class
System set up • Org structure • In particular, for roster loading, and for role “cascading” • Role settings • Replicating some in UW-ACE, but using cascading where makes sense • Different system philosophy – org & role & permissions, vs org & role & course
In the News • D2L buys ePresence (web conferencing system, used at Waterloo) • Blackboard acquisition!? Buyer not specified yet.
