  5. Logical approach literature review • Obesity has risen in 31 states and hasn’t decreased in any (2007 data). The societal costs of obesity include: health issues, lost workdays, being less likely to attend college, lowered self-image and increased depression. • Childhood obesity costs the Health Care system $14.3 billion each year. Research indicates that obesity results in about $117 billion in lost wages and other costs to employers because of decreased productivity. Our nations military readiness is also being effected as increased numbers of young people are being rejected from service due to obesity. • The eight largest weight-loss chains had sales totaling in $788 million while businesses selling dietary supplements totaled $279 million (2000). People are continually trying to lose weight but often fail due to lack of knowledge about healthy ways to lose weight.
