The way forward Note: The following views do not represent the position of Japanese Government NOWPAP is so far one of the most successful regional seas programs despite of diversified economic, social & political background in the region In order to further activate NOWPAP activities, following issues ‘might’ be addressed…. • How to further raise quality of NOWPAP activities • Data sharing, outreach, regional policy coordination… • Whether the scope of activities will be broaden or not • from eutrophication, oil spills to chemicals, POPs, climate change impacts • How to get additional financial resources.. • Seeking External resources (private financing, international organization • Integration with another issue attracting political interests, i.e., climate change, trans-boundary resource management (3R initiative), biodiversity • Raise presence of NOWPAP in host cities • How to reinforce institutional capacity of governments responsible for marine environment policies • Making best use of regional activity centers (RAC) & Regional coordinating unit (RCU) • Collaboration with stakeholders (local government, NGOs, industries on the areas of monitoring, assessment, data sharing, outreach, education, etc.
