  2. Adjectives • Adjectives are words that modify nouns and pronouns. My stupid brother broke the TV. My brother is loathsome. I have thirty-three oranges. He is smart.

  3. Adjectives • Adjectives can be identified because they answer the questions • How many? • Which one? • What kind? You need ared book. I saw the ugly painting. Give me thirty apples.

  4. Adverbs • Adverbs are words that modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs. I walked slowly down the street. Bill Is marvelously intelligent. She will arrive veryearly.

  5. Adverbs • Adverbs can be identified because they answer the questions • How? • When? • Where? We will remain here. John turned quickly. I told you yesterday.

  6. Adjectives to Adverbs • In English, we can often turn an adjective into an adverb by adding –lyto the adjective. That’s an easy exam. You can pass that exam easily. We were given a warm welcome. We were welcomed warmly. • This can be done in Latin, too.

  7. Adjectives to Adverbs • To change an adjective of the first and second declension into an adverb, add –ēto its stem. stultus => stultē pulcher => pulchrē

  8. Adjectives to Adverbs • To change a an adjective of the third declension into an adverb, add –iteror –terto its stem. fortis => fortiter audāx => audacter

  9. A Few Irregularities bonus => bene paruus => paulum multus => multum magnus => magnopere
