  1. Warm-up!! Please draw 30 circles on a page. Make the circles as perfect as you can. Make 5 rows with 6 circles in each row.

  2. Warm-up!! Please draw 30 circles on a page. Make the circles as perfect as you can. Make 5 rows with 6 circles in each row. Turn the circles into something! You have 3 minutes! (5 min)

  3. Divide your paper into 8 portions. Answer a question in each portion. 1) When did your team work well together? Why was that? 2) When was it hard to work together as a team? Why was that? 3) If you had the chance, what would you do differently with your team next time? 4) What was easy about this design thinking process? 5) What was hard about this design thinking process? 6) What was your favorite part of the process? Why? 7) How would you define ‘design thinking’ to a friend? 8) How do you see yourself using this process at home? (10 min + 10 min debrief)

  4. Taking it home part 1: Yawning Yoshi! You are going to come up with some solutions for Yoshi to do in a given situation. Pick one of the Yoshis to design for and head to that area: Yawning Yoshi: Yawning Yoshi gets so bored all the time. His teachers can’t seem to keep him interested. Upset Yoshi: Upset Yoshi gets upset a lot. He is down about his family situation. Forgetful Yoshi: Forgetful Yoshi forgets things all the time. He is always running late because he is such a scatterbrain.

  5. ‘How might wes’: Yawning Yoshi: Yawning Yoshi gets so bored all the time. His teachers can’t seem to keep him interested. How might we inspire YY with school? How might we make school more fun than after-school for YY? How might we help YY develop his passions at school? How might we make school the most exciting place to be? Upset Yoshi: Upset Yoshi gets upset a lot. He is down about his family situation. His parents are often fighting and he worries about how his siblings feel about this. How might we distract UY from thinking about his family situation? How might we cheer UY up? How might we help UY handle his family situation? How might we help with the siblings? How might we help UY to tell his parents how he is feeling? Forgetful Yoshi: Forgetful Yoshi forgets things all the time. He is always running late because he is such a scatterbrain. He is embarrassed about this. How might we help FY remember things at school? How might we help FY remember things around his house? How might we help FY to be on time for things? How might we reduce the things that FY can forget? How might we make it cool for FY to forget? Pick HMWs – 2 min Brainstorm -10 min vote – 3 min Share – 2 min

  7. Taking it home part 2: Designing a weekend experience for a partner. You are going to come up with some solutions for a partner to do sometimes on a weekend. This will feel like the Gift Giving activity from Wednesday. In a way, this is like giving a partner a parting design thinking gift!

  8. Interview your partner about what you like to do for fun. What interviewing skills are you going to use? (8 min, 4 min each)

  9. Define the problem you want to solve for your partner. Remember that needs are verbs! (4 min)

  10. Generate lots of solutions for your partner that match the problem statement. Follow the brainstorming rules and be visual and come up with lots of wild and crazy ideas! (6 min)

  11. Share your solutions with your partner. Hear his/her feedback! Give your partner your solution sheet as a parting gift! (6 min)
