Mrs. Sessions’ Kindergarten Weekly Newsletter January 27-31, 2014 • Boot Scootin’ News • Our 100th day of school has been changed to Friday, Jan. 31. I am so proud of the children and how much they have learned in the first 100 days of school! We will celebrate all day long by counting 100 objects, reading books about 100 things, and making fun 100 day things. Thank you for all you do to support me and your children in developing a love for learning during their Kindergarten year! • NO SCHOOL TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY DUE TO WINTER WEATHER! • Friday, January 25 – Favorite Shirt & Jeans Day • Shoebox Float Making – Wed., Feb. 19 @ 9:00 a.m. – Volunteers needed! • Friday, Feb. 28 @ 1:00 p.m. – School Mardi Gras parade – Volunteers needed! We also need a trailer and 4 wheeler. Please let me know if you have one and can come pull us for the parade. • Mardi Gras Holidays – March 3 - 7 What We’re Learning • ELA – Unit 6 Neighborhood – Key Skills • Letter Dd and review Hh and Rr – letter and sound recognition • Reading Story – Alicia’s Happy Day • Discuss, describe, compare and contrast neighborhoods, • describe how to help in our neighborhood, describe jobs people • have in our neighborhood • Understanding that words are made up of letters • Listen and respond to fiction, informational text, photo essay • and folk tale • Retell a story, summarize; identify main idea and details, • develop fluency • Match the letter /d/ to the sounds /d/, and blend words /d/ • Read simple one syllable words • Write Dd • Use letter knowledge to write, revise, and edit words and • sentences • Math – Unit 4 – Key Skills • Count to 100 (by ones and tens) • Using comparative vocabulary to describe two sets of up to 10 • objects • Counting up to 20 objects • Adding • Subtracting • Finding number partners within 10 • Compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common • to see which object is more or less of the attribute • Social Studies/Science • Mardi Gras/Neighborhoods Student of the Week Sophie Homework • Review sight words each night! • Read your super reader book each night! • Reading: Read “Are You Sad?” book to your parent. • Writing: Write and complete the sentence “_____ _____ for me.” Draw pictures to go with it. • Handwriting: Hh, Dd, Rr and numbers page • Math: Addition pages • Language: Phonics: /h/ page 133, /d/ and /r/ page 137, blending page 138, phonics page 139. • Fairy Tale Homework • Return all homework on Fridays. • Show and tell on Friday. • Have a great weekend!
