Deep Space Network (DSN) Readiness • All Required Facilities and Upgrades completed and On-line • Upgraded all 34m BWG Antenna w/ 20KW Transmitters • Project Agreements in Place • Project Service Level Agreement, June 2001 • No amendments for Wild II encounter • Project Requirements/Telecommunications and Missions Operations Directorate Support Agreement (PR/TSA) for STARDUST (SDU_PRTSA.doc-9/25/98) • Negotiations for Required DSN Tracking Completed and Coverage to be Provided • STARDUST 80 deg in Sky from Mars • Only 3 Hour Overlap for 10 Hour Pass • Mission Can be Performed on 34m Net • 70m Net Used to Give Good Margin CERR - Steve Waldherr

Deep Space Network (DSN) Readiness • DSMS Level 1 Support Requirement Summary • Criticality level 1 Per DSMS 841-001 Document • Significant one of a kind events such as launches, encounters, and unique scientific events. A ground system failure could jeopardize the spacecraft, result in loss of unique scientific data, or result in the failure to achieve one or more mission objectives. The DSN is at its highest level of mission readiness when in the Level 1 posture. • DSMS Level 1 Support Times • TCM-12 • December 31/365-1500 through December 31/365-2100 • TCM-13, TCM-14/Final Update/ Encounter • January 2/002-0100 through January 3/003-0100 CERR - Steve Waldherr

Deep Space Network (DSN) Readiness • DSMS New Implementations • DSS 55 in Madrid, which is a 34-meter Beam Wave Guide was declared operational 1 November • Stardust participated in successful Demonstration passes prior to operational date • DSS 55 being used routinely by other mission on a daily basis since 1 November • No issue or concerns with DSS-55 support capabilities • Other • Alternate Assets (New Norcia/Parkes) does not benefit Stardust and is not planned • DSMS array does not benefit Stardust and is not planned • Goldstone Emergency Control Center (ECC) does not benefit Stardust and will not be used CERR - Steve Waldherr

Deep Space Network (DSN) Readiness • DSMS Triage • DSMS Triage Plan (DSMS #802-009) issued Oct 29 2003 • Stardust has participated in several DSMS work shops in which several triage scenarios where worked • DSMS Triage Plan augments the existing Standard Operations Plan for the Deep Space Network (DSM # 841-001) • DSMS Triage Plan provides special DSMS “War Room” • JPL DSN Mission Event Readiness Review (MERR) held on 13 November 2003 • Held 3 weeks earlier then standard (event minus 30 days) • 1 Advisory written, No Request For Actions (RFAs) • Review Board complimented Project on the robustness of mission planning for the encounter • Review Board consensus was that the DSN is prepared and ready to support the Wild II encounter CERR - Steve Waldherr
