EPIC HISTORY • Founded in 1998 Funded and supported by • Philadelphia DHS Originally focused on Truancy • Created to compliment the efforts of Family Court, Police, School District • Evolved to address Quality of Life • Annual 1999 First Citywide Stakeholder Summit • Citywide Cross Collaborative Team (2001) • Faith Based Initiative (2003) • Anti-Truancy Poster Contest (2004) • Anti-Truancy Poetry Slam(2005) • Note: Both these projects represent a collaborative partnership with Philadelphia School District) • 2005-2006 Prevention Initiative (A proactive community advocacy campaign that preserved Prevention funding.) • Representation at City Council (EPIC Stakeholders spoke at hearings) • Supported the establishment of 10 curfew centers. • 2007 – EPIC Summit on Trauma • 2010 - EPIC Leadership Initiative • (Non profit Management Trainings @ Temple University) • 2010 Instrumental in staffing Renaissance School Advisory Councils • 2010 – Present - Supported Philly Rising Initiatives • 2011 - Supported Graduation Coach Program • 2011 First EPIC Economic Development Summit • 2012 – Produced 10 Regional Mini Summits • 2012 – Phila First Youth Engagement Conference • 2012 – Educational Initiative • 2012-13 – EPIC Violence Reduction Initiative • 2012 – 2015 - DHS Outcomes for Children Initiative

TWELVE WAYS YOU CAN PROACTIVELY PARTICIPATE • Attend and Join an EPIC Group in your region. • Learn the history, structure and purpose. • Volunteer for meeting & events • Gather info and resources and share them at meeting • Participate in the strategic planning process. • Participate in EPIC Leadership Trainings • Assist in identifying local meetings and community events • Bring/recruit new members • Donate resources, refreshments , etc. • Be enthusiastic, supportive and loyal. • Become part of the ECAC • Offer to present at the meetings.
