  9. ◆ Seasons in Australia are opposite to those in the Northern Hemisphere. When it’s winter in Australia, it’s summer in China. ◆ Two of the best-known Australian animals are kangaroos and koalas. ◆ Australians speak English, but some words are used only in Australia, for example, arvo—afternoon See you in the soup! —See you around!

“City of Water” What is the “City of Water”? It’s Venice, a beautiful Italian city. It’s a city on 118 small islands within a lake, and has about 400 bridges. For centuries, people took a kind of long boat to travel within Venice. The boat is called “gondola.” Today gondolas are usually used as boats for tourists.

  11. In the heart of Venice lies St. Mark’s Square When the Carnival of Venice (威尼斯狂欢节) comes, it’s full of people in colourful masks and costumes. It’s a big square like those all across Europe, but a special one because it’s in Venice. No car noises nearby, only you, the square and the pigeons. Yes, the square has a lot of pigeons. They aren’t afraid of people at all, and love to pose with tourists for a photo. So it’s always very interesting to watch parents try to make the birds stand on their children for a photo!

Funny Houses Look! What a large basket by the lake! Hey, it is a building! Wow! A house in an iceberg! This will be a new kind of building in the North Pole.

  13. Hello! My name is “Shoe House.” But I am much larger than your shoes. The house is turned upside down! A tornado may have hit there.
