CRO Practical Guidelines for Using CRO
Preliminary Adjustment • Before making any measurement, ground the CRO. • Turn the “Position” knob so that the trace is at the centre (or at the bottom if required).
Connection • Connect the CRO terminal to the component concerned. • Unearth the Y-input and select DC or AC mode as instructed. • The Earth terminal of the CRO should be connected to the Earth terminal of the circuit. The black terminal is the earth
Adjustment of Sensitivity • Adjust the sensitivity so that the trace does not exceed the CRO screen. This knob should be turned fully clockwise.
Adjustment of Timebase • Adjust the timebase so that one or two complete cycles can be observed on the CRO screen. This knob should be turned fully clockwise.
Exercise 1 The following screen is seen on the CRO. What should we adjust in order to get an observable trace on the screen? A. Decrease the sensitivity B. Increase the sensitivity C. Decrease the speed of timebase D. Increase the speed of timebase
Exercise 1 You are Wrong. Try Again. See Solution.
Solution to Exercise 1 In this case, the trace exceed the upper and lower boundary of the screen. So, we should decrease the sensitivity of the Y-input.
Exercise 2 The following screen is seen on the CRO. What should we adjust in order to get an observable trace on the screen? A. Decrease the sensitivity B. Increase the sensitivity C. Decrease the speed of timebase D. Increase the speed of timebase
Exercise 2 You are Wrong. Try Again. See Solution.
Solution to Exercise 2 In this case, not even one cycle was observed on the screen. So, the timebase must be too fast and we have to decrease the speed of the time base.
