What is the purpose of this presentation? • To inform the wider NgāiTumapuhiarangi community who have little contact and have little knowledge about the claim and the rohe. • This lack of understanding is not unusual • As people have transitioned to other areas for employment, education, build a new whanau, housing they become more isolated from their tipunawhanua • We want to inform them in as many ways as possible, this is one way • Its not the Crown’s role to inform our people, its up to us. • No one else can do it.
Its about our cultural heritage • Our heritage is about us as a people and a people as us. • As we unpack more about our cultural content we need to ensure others know about as well • Many have little knowledge about our whenua, for example TeMaipi is just a name to them. The have little knowledge as to where it is. • Pukaroro No 1, Pahaoa and TeUnuunu and Waikekeno are just names – what they stand for is relatively unknown to the wider hapu community.
Our rohe • The rohe of Ngai Tumapuhairangi is about who we are • The threads of connections to our neighbours • The inter marriage over time • The use of each others resources • The exchanges through the use of the sea as avenues of access and migrating peoples off to settle elsewhere or travellers on single destination ventures stopping over before continuing onwards
Further information to be added • We will build on this to inform our constituent members
