  1. Northwest Tree Octopus This species is relatively unknown, however, there is a lot of information on the following website. http://zapatopi.net/treeoctopus/ We would like you to write a non-chronological report (information text) about it or a similar unknown species. You can use the information on the website to help you or you could write about an animal that you know a lot about, or even better, you could make up your own animal and write a non-chronological report about it. Your teachers will have given you the chance to look at other non-chronological reports in school this week and the features and success criteria are on the back of this sheet. Remember this homework is due in on Tuesday May 7th so you have plenty of time.

  2. Success Criteria What to include • Use present tense • Write in the third person • Include lots of facts/examples • Use a formal writing style (this is not a story) • Use detailed descriptions • Include topic words • Try to vary the way your sentences are written (can you start with different words/phrases) • Use technical language • Use titles and subheadings to put your writing into sections Structure • Title • Introduction- What is the report about? • Paragraphs- Use subheadings and start each one with a sentence about your topic. Use diagrams and charts. • Conclusion- Summarise what you have written about. • Possibly include a glossary? *for younger children they will not have come across some of the vocabulary here but they can still write lots of informative sentences about a real or imagined animal – for example what it looks like, how to look after it, what it eats etc.*
