  3. Achieving a Culture Shift • Transition Team • 3 Members of Health • 3 Members of DSS • I Member of DoA/BARTS • Agency Director • Purpose: • Solicit input from staff • Develop a new Mission Statement & Vision • Develop short-term achievable goals • Develop a strategic plan for long-term change

  4. Efficiency and Effectiveness • Use Transition Team to define shared mission and resources • Develop a culture of CQI

  5. Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) • A process to ensure agency programs are systematically and intentionally improving services and efficiencies. • Proactive • Preventative in nature

Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) • Characteristics of CQI • Continually evaluates existing processes and develops new standards of practice. • CQI is influenced by objective data and focuses on systems change, rather than individual performance, in order to optimize performance and appropriate resource utilization • Ideas and changes come from front line staff • System and ideas are tested before fully implemented

Principles of the Plan – Do – Study – Act (PDSA) Model • start new changes on the smallest possible scale • run just as many PDSA cycles as necessary to gain confidence in your change – then expand • expand incrementally • balance changes within system to ensure other processes not adversely stressed

Public Health Quality Improvement 101 • A free program offered by the NC Center for Public Health Quality • August 5, 2013 – February 28, 2014 • Majority of meetings via webinar • Periodic meetings in Raleigh • Team Action Items in the interim • Goals for our CQI Team: • Learn CQI • Improve a specific process • Sustain and spread throughout agency
