Sapodilla’s Chicle the original gum-base • though the gum-base found in modern gum is usually synthetic, the original gum-base came from the sapodilla tree • native to southern parts of Mexico • sapodilla’s fruit is one of the sweetest fruits in the world • gum-base is not from fruit, but from the chicleor “sap” of the tree
Sapodilla’s Chicle the original gum-base • the chicle from the sapodilla is a major by-product, containing 15% rubber and 38% resin • sapodilla is tapped for its chicle, much like a maple tree for its sap
