2. List the factors that can determine the identity of a writer, based on a handwriting sample. - The factors that can determine the identity of a writer are using the reverse slant of writing, changing capital letters, or using the opposite hand.
3. Why is the use of original document important for handwriting comparisons? - A photo copy cannot reproduce all the details of original document.
4. Describe the three techniques one could use to disguise his/her handwriting. - Using the reverse slant of writing. - Changing capital letters. - Using opposite hands.
5. What is oblique lighting and how is it used in handwriting analysis? - Oblique handwriting is used to reveal hidden impressions.
6. What is an ESDA and what is it’s function? -Electrostatic detection apparatus (ESDA) detects impressions made on paper by writing instruments. A piece of Mylar film is stretched over the sample and charged electrostatically. Black toner is then spread over the Mylar film. The charge will highlight any area of the paper that has been disturbed by writing indentations, and the toner will reveal those indentations.
