LWSD is Growing! • As LWSD continues to grow, we expect to add additional staffing* • Elementary Schools • 251 additional students = 10 additional teachers • Middle Schools • 125 additional students = 5 additional teachers • High Schools • 216 additional students = 9 additional teachers *numbers are approximate
Order of Staffing • Approval/Denial of leave requests • Approval/Denial of job shares • Staffing allocations • Placement of returning leaves • Contract conversions • Transfer List activated • Hire for open vacancies
Leaves • Requests for 2014-2015 leaves were due 2/18/2014 • Teachers on leave for 2013-14 intention to return from leave, extend leave or resign due 2/18/2014 • Teachers returning from 1 year leave return to same position • Teachers returning from 2 or more years of leave have lost return rights to their former building • Leaves approved/denied the first week of March • Teachers returning from multiple year leave will be placed in April • Partial leaves will be processed as appropriate and as early as May
Job Share • 2014-2015 Job Share application was posted on the Staff Portal • Deadline for application submittal was to principals on 2/18/2014 • Job Shares must be between two continuing (provisional or continuing) LWSD teachers only • Principals forward applications to respective DSS for processing • DSS will notify HR of approved Job Shares in March • Principals will notify teachers in March
Staffing Allocation • Secondary Staffing • Business Office sends staffing allocation for 2014-2015 to HR in first part of April • HR sends updated staffing sheets to schools once staffing allocation is received • Elementary Staffing • Business Office sends staffing allocation for 2014-2015 to HR mid-April • HR sends updated staffing sheets to schools once staffing allocation is received • HR sends updated staffing sheets to schools on • HR staffing sheets are to reflect 2014-15 staffing • HR will also send copy of staffing sheets to program departments • Schools are to return corrected/altered staffing sheets for 2014-15 to HR one week after receipt (no decisions on placing, converting, or hiring teachers can be made until all schools have submitted this data)
Spring Contract Conversion • Principal recommendations are due to HR by 3/14/2014 • Upon receipt of all staffing sheets in April, conversion decision will be made • Conversion decisions are based on District criteria as well as a school need • Positions converted prior to 5/15/2014 remain at their current building and are not subject to transfers
Transfer List • Process was open 1/15/2015 – 2/18/2014 • HR is currently determining eligibility of transfer requests • HR will post a redacted version of the official transfer list on the Staff Portal accessible to teachers and administrators that will identify: • School which transfer is requested • Subject/grade in school which transfer is requested • Seniority of candidate requesting transfer
Use of Transfer List • Transfer list is not implemented until: • Approval/Denial of 2014-2015 leaves • Placement of teachers returning from 2013-14 leaves • Staffing allocations have been confirmed • Spring contract conversions have been completed • Transfer list is activated before: • Interviewing candidates from outside of the District
When the Transfer List is Used • School has identified a vacant position • Before screening for interview, administrator contacts Associate Director of HR (ADHR) • If a transfer request is identified, ADHR will notify administrator and teacher that they have 48 hours to meet face-to-face and accept the position • Transfer will not be finalized until ADHR has confirmation of meeting and the teacher is willing to accept position
Certificated Hiring Process • Identifying Staffing Needs • Postings • Screening • Selecting Applicants • Interview • Job Offer
New Elements of Hiring Process • Interview Schedule Form • Informing HR of candidates to be interviewed prior to interview • Candidate Interview Logs • Facilitate communication of candidate interview status and ratings for administrators • Coordination of Interviewing Candidate • Differentiated interview questions for candidates interviewed more than once • Schools consider candidate status in interview process prior to scheduling interview • Restrictions on interviewing candidates yet to be completely screened by HR
Thank You • Coordinated process • Open communication • Teamwork
