Two Ways To Succeed in Marriage Marry someone who is perfect, be perfect yourself (perfect couple) or Learn how to forgive (same for relationship with God)
Our Forgiveness is Not • Merely a statement Matt. 18:35 • Merely abstaining from revenge Rom. 12:17-21 • No such thing as “getting even” • Eye for an eye Matt 5:38-39 • Betraying another offended II Sam. 13:20 • Endorsing or encouraging further sin Jn. 8:11
Our Forgiveness is Not • Means of removing offender’s guilt • Some won’t forgive (advantage) • Some offenders have no guilt • Some offenders never forgive themselves • Deserved or earned (debt can’t repay) • Matt. 6:12, Luke 7:40-43, Matt. 18:23-35
Our Forgiveness is Not • Literally removing their sins • Only God can forgive Mark 2:1-12 • He erases them Heb. 8:12 • But still required Luke 17:3-5 • Rebuke, Repent, Forgive (increase faith) • Seek limits Matt. 18:21-22 (if repents) • Lk. 23:34, Acts 7:60, II Tim. 4:16
Seek His Repentance For His Benefit, Not For Yours • Luke 17:1-2 sin comes, severe punishment • rebuke to get repentance (God’s forgives) • if no repentance (Matt. 18:15-17) • Damage self by withholding forgiveness • we can’t hold something over him without holding something inside of us Eph. 4:26-27 • Grudge is continual rehearsal of wrong done
