Vision: Centre of Expertise – Skills Related to Broadband Technologies – current and future requirements – The skills to drive profit using broadband technologies Expertise In (for example): Laying fibre – Alternative Technologies – WiFi – Copper – Mobile G4/G5 – Installation - Implementation - maintenance - Superfast – ultrafast – we’re running out of superlatives fast

Growth & Innovation Fund – Our Proposal Timescales - Milestones Initial Consultation: 26th March 12 Develop Understanding of Regional/Local Needs: March to May 12 Write Outline Proposal: April to May 12 Final Consultation: May 2012 Write Proposal Document: June 12 Engage with Stakeholder: July/Aug 12 Submit Proposal to UK Commission for Employment & Skills : July/Aug 12

Growth & Innovation Fund – Our Proposal What A Successful Project Looks Like Strong Input from the Local Enterprise Partnerships Currently Engaged with: Cornwall; Heart of South West, West of England; Gloucestershire and Herefordshire LEP Boards Project Duration: 2 years Minimum Public Funds: £500k / year Strong engagement from private sector essential Financial commitment required Money: Shared costs – sponsorship In kind: Shared resources Beyond the Project: Legacy - Sustainable

Business owners are, and always will be, very pragmatic about their choice of technology - What matters is getting the job done in the most timely and cost effective way. Reduce the risks associated with adopting new technology / working practices – focus on broadband

Growth & Innovation Fund – Our Proposal Driving Profit Using Superfast Broadband - Example Initiatives Develop Apprenticeship Programme : ICT skills – business / local providers Set up dedicated ICT Group Training Agency Graduate Placement Scheme: e-marketing – cloud computing – e-commerce E-learning: Leadership and Management courses delivered direct to premise International Trade: Increasing exporting skills in broadband enabled business Enterprise Zones/Areas: Skills - Implementation of super/ultra/Gbit infrastructure Rural Take Up: Broadband Test Bed – Defining Business Benefits
