Planets and Other Planetary Bodies By Carter Perry
Our Solar System 1: The Sun 2: Mercury 3: Venus 4: Earth 5: Mars 6: Jupiter 7: Saturn 8: Uranus 9: Neptune Pluto and beyond are either Dwarf Planets
Mercury • Mercury is the smallest of all the planets in our solar system. • It is filled with many meteor craters and has no real significance that scientists know about • 400 degrees Celsius to -180 degrees Celsius
Venus • Venus is similar in size and temperature as earth. Therefore it is called the sister planet to Earth • Its atmosphere is almost all carbon dioxide.
Earth Humans and other animals inhabit Earth with water, land, oxygen and other things to support life . Only known planet to support life Various temperatures
Mars • Mars is called the red planet for one reason, its land contains a lot of iron • Mars is half the size of Earth with multiple volcanoes and two polar ice caps or North and south pole
Jupiter • This giant planet is the largest of all 8 planets • Made mostly out of gas • Has a giant red spot for what it is famous for.
Saturn • Saturn is a gas giant like Jupiter with large ring that stretch 250000km around Saturn • These rings are made of ice and rock and can be considered very elaborate
Uranus • Uranus is blue and has a smaller ring of ice and dust • Instead of spinning this planet is known to roll
Neptune • Neptune has the same color as Uranus, a dark blue but no ring and no rolling • Neptune also has a giant blue spot like Jupiter’s giant red spot.
Mnemonic Device • A mnemonic device is Helps you remember things like the plantes names and order • My Very Early Morning Just Sucks Until Noon • Mercury=My Venus=Very Earth=Early Mars-Morning Jupiter=Just Saturn=Sucks Uranus=Until Neptune=Noon
Dwarf Planets • Dwarf Planets are smaller than regular and therefore are not classified not as planets but Dwarf Planets. Ceres, Pluto, Eris and Ganymadeare Dwarf Planets are close or in the Kuiper Belt
The Kuiper Belt • The Kuiper belt is an asteroid belt beyond the planet Neptune or a trans-Neptunian asteroid belt . This is where most asteroids have to pass through for us to see. • The Oort Cloud in the picture is where most scientists think that asteroids come from.
Oort Clouds • The Oort Cloud in the picture is where most scientists think that asteroids and comets come from.
