IEEE HUMANITARIAN TECHNOL0GY NETWORK HTN IEEE Foundation Dick Gowen, President
Humanitarian Technology NetworkHTN • Connect organizations serving humanitarian needs with members who have technological innovations to enhance effectiveness • Provide the ability to describe the details of the humanitarian need • Provide a process to engage a threaded exanimation of technologies available to resolve the need • Provide a controlled environment with low infrastructure costs
Humanitarian Technology NetworkHTN • Use a wiki for first-hand discussion of needs and potential solutions • Two part site • Description of need controlled by organization • Discussion of multiple potential technological solutions • All participants identified • IEEE members by logon • Others by registration
Humanitarian Technology NetworkHTN • Invite NGO‘s, foundations, and agencies engaged in providing humanitarian services to describe their experiences and needs • Invite discussion of potential technological solutions • Use threaded type discussions that innovate on previous technological ideas • Converge on most appropriate technological solution • Provide process to implement solution
IEEE Humanitarian Technology Network Adapt copy of the new GHN wiki to the Humanitarian Technology Network GHN-Provides ability to describe first-hand experiences in developing products or services GHN- Provides infrastructure and classification of content for easy access by participants and public GHN- Provides ability to recognize outstanding humanitarian technological achievements GHN- Provides ability to link members with volunteer humanitarian programs and organizations
Development of the GHN • Provide both current and historical content through the GHN wiki including: • First-Hand experiences of Individuals in development of a technology • First-Hand experiences of groups involved in corporations and organizations • Histories of IEEE Organizational Units • Descriptions of technologies and applications • Links to museums, libraries, conferences
Development of the GHN • Entry of materials in agreement with IEEE Code of Ethics and respect for intellectual property • Provides for the submission of milestones, video histories, archival materials • Content classified when entered in the GHN • Inaugurated at the September IEEE 2008 Sections Congress • Log-on and share your experiences www.ieeeghn.org
IEEE Humanitarian Technology Network • Convert GHN infrastructure to support HTN • Modify look and feel to humanitarian technology • Invite humanitarian organizations to participate • Identify needs and develop technological solutions • Process for implementation as product or service • Connect members as volunteers with humanitarian programs • Recognize outstanding technologically enhanced humanitarian programs
Thank You • Thank you for the opportunity to share concepts for the HTN • Log-on to the GHN and review the infrastructure • www.ieeeghn.org
