Carnivals South Africa is a colourful, full of vibe and joyous country. Here are some of the carnivals we have: • National Arts Festival The National Arts Festival is held in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. The event is the largest of its kind and it is very cultural as it offers arts and culture, ranging from drama to poetry to music and dance. It is held in June/July for 11 days. • Vodacom Durban July The Vodacom Durban July is a fashion and horse-race event that consists of designers from all over South Africa. Every year there is a theme and racegoersdress up for it to add to the special occasion. • MacufeFestival The MacufeJazz Festival is a 10-day event where talents are showcased. The event consists of all types of music and art. The annual festival takes place in early October.
Most importantly: The kaapseklopse festival • The KaapseKlopseis a colourful annual festival held in Cape Town in January. On the event day the people take to the streets with painted faces , singing, dancing, playing instruments and having costume competitions. The event dates back to 1848 when ex-slaves painted their faces white and paraded the streets singing songs imitating important local people. Since then the tradition has been carried on.
