Global Citizenship – Why it Matters Craig Clark & Elisabeth Hall
Globally, we are some of the most fortunate citizens in the world with access to amenities some countries will never have (good roads, stable infrastructure, secure policing, world renowned healthcare) • Even small contributions of time and effort can have a massive impact (Its not all about the global advertising schemes of Oxfam and WaterAid)
Where We’ve Been AFRICA • Kenya • Malawi • Ghana As you can see, that barely scratches the surface
What We’ve Done • Medical Work (HIV testing, Malaria screening, Immunisations, Emergency wound clinics) • Teaching (English, Basic daily living, Social skills, Importance of contraception) • Friendship (Creating community ties, Encouraging communication, Sharing cultural experiences)
What We Gained • Increased appreciation for what we have • The ability to be flexible • Amazing insights into different cultures • First hand experience in different healthcare settings (Important for science related careers such as medicine) • Some AMAZING photo
