  2. Can we trust our senses to make accurate observations? Early scientists used subjective observations as methods of measurement (ex. the water is cold) During the 17th century, subjective methods were replaced with objective observations using instruments to obtain measurements of greater precision (ex. the water is 5°C)

  3. 1. Do the long slanted lines appear to be parallel?

  4. 2. Observe the small black and white squares. Do they appear to be the same size?

  5. 3. Look at the horizontal lines. How do their lengths compare?

  6. 4. Look at the diagonal lines. How do their lengths compare?

  7. 5. Study the people. Which one appears tallest?

  8. What does this experience tell you about human senses as measurement tools?
