OmniRAN ECSG Status • OmniRAN:‘Open mobile network interface for omni Range Area Networks’ • It’s about end-station attachment control • Officers: • Chair: Max Riegel, NSN • Vice chair: Juan Carlos Zuniga, Interdigital • Activities during the week • 4 meetings: • Tue, AM2, PM1; Wed, PM1; Thur, PM1 • Presentation to IEEE 802.1 on Monday • Alignment discussion w/ IEEE 802.21 took place in Wed PM1 meeting • Participation: • About 45 people signed in (20 – 35 per meeting slot) • Biggest group from 802.11 • considerable participation from 802.16 and 802.21

OmniRAN ECSGMarch ’13 Achievements • Progressing on use cases • Agreed with detailed description and requirements for OmniRAN • Smart Grid • Wi-Fi Roaming • Trusted WLAN Access to EPC (‘SaMOG’) • In favor, with detailed input expected for next session • Software Defined Networking (SDN) • For further study • Unified Management Framework (UMF) • Proximity Service • Relationship to other ‘higher layer’ activities in IEEE 802 • IEEE 802.1 • Discussion showed close relation without conflicts with 802.1 activities • IEEE 802.21 • Good discussion on how OmniRAN and 802.21 complement each other • It seems, OminRAN provides valuable glue for existing IEEE 802 standards
