Child and Family Learning Center (CFLC) History: • 1979: Started Head Start Services • 1981: ISD piloted new program called P.A.T. • 1987: Independences implements Dr Ed Zigler’s Schools of the 21st Century through a grant from the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation • 1988: Two schools began pre-school, before and after care, and flip-flop (AM/PM) Kindergarten • 1990: ISD began Family Literacy (Even Start) • 1995: Partners with Local Investment Commission to create Caring Communities Independence School District
1997: ISD pilots Head Start services into five schools • 1998: 73% of voters approve local bond to build early childhood centers • 1999: Early Head Start Collaboration begins • 2003: First in State to offer Comprehensive Head Start Services to all Pre-K Students School Based • 2003 – 2005: ISD receives three 21CCLC awards • 2005: Partnership with Department of Social Services to launch a Child Welfare Initiative Independence School District
