Reminders for Clubs/Coaches2009 Summer Season Games Commissioner Report East Central Soccer District Meeting 9 March 2009
GC Goals for 2009 • Focus on teaching soccer and sportsmanship • Follow-up on poor behavior of coaches • Utilize Tracking System developed in ‘08 for yellow/red cards • By Club • By Team • By Individual • Reduce the amount of administrative follow-up • Let the kids play ---keep the adults out of the way • Be prepared for game day (Game day checklist) • Dispute Resolution (Usually scores) • Game reschedule/forfeit
Yellow/Red Card Tracking • Behavior better in 2008 vs. 2007? • Coaching ejections down • Red Cards down • Problem teams (2) were addressed
Reducing Administrative Follow-up Top 2 issues causing administrative follow-up • Incorrectly filled out score cards • Disputes over “no-shows” and rescheduling of games Recommended Club action • Teach your coaches how to fill out a score card • Review Game Day Check with all Coaches (and give them a copy for inclusion with other game equipment) http://www.eastcentralsoccer.org/Info/PDF/6-08%20Game%20Day%20Checklist.pdf • Review the Dispute Resolution Form (for issues with scores, posted scores, forfeits, rescheduling or anything else) http://www.eastcentralsoccer.org/Info/PDF/Game%20Change%20and%20Dispute%20Resolution%20Request.pdf No action will be taken unless a dispute resolution form is completed
Rescheduling Four Principles • Avoid it if you can • Communicate with the other team! • Be Adult • “I left a message” or “I e-mailed them” is not communication • Focus on letting the kids play (vs. “winning” the forfeit argument) • Communicate with your Club/Other Club • President • Referee Assignor • Field Commissioner/Assignor • Utilize the “Game Change and Dispute Resolution Form”
Rescheduling Official EC Rules • Rescheduling Games • Clubs/teams may attempt to reschedule games ONLY for the following reasons: • 1. Game postponed due to inclement weather • 2. Field deemed unplayable by the field marshal, referee or owner • 3. Games conflicting with a ‘state league’ commitment • 4. Games that conflict with tournaments • 5. Games that conflict with school events • Games should not be rescheduled due to a few players missing. In the event a game has to be rescheduled, the new date should be determined at least seven days before the originally scheduled game date (to allow the referees and field schedulers advanced warning). The rescheduled date must be during the EC League season. Fill out East Central Dispute Resolution form to create a paper trail for rescheduled games. Communication between clubs is vital. • All re-scheduled games must be approved by the home club field scheduler and referee scheduler. If either scheduler is unable to reschedule then the game will be declared a ‘no contest’. Unofficial Rules Use Common Sense --- work things out with the other Coach/Club Focus on getting the kids a chance to play
Focus on communications for Game Changes Always utilize Game Number in any Communications
Rescheduling Endorsements Common Issue ---- don’t forget about the folks who schedule the Ref’s & Fields
