  2. Workshops on Key Areas of Focus: • -Member Recruitment/Growth • -Member Retention • -Faith in Action • Key Take-Aways Wrap Up Session

  3. Our Objective This Weekend Give you the tools and resources you need to lead your jurisdictions to a successful year!

  4. We’re in this together Define success and track it We lead together. And we succeed or fail together Holding volunteers accountable is okay Your job isn’t to do every job. But to Plan, Lead and Delegate

  5. My Topics For Today Some Challenges We Face What we must do Getting off to a fast start!

  6. Challenges We Face • Declining membership the past few years • We have an unclear identity -This is particularly true for adults under 40 years of age • Many prospects and members do not know our programs • Our image is that of a group of “older men” – lack of relevance to the under 40 age group • We have to be relevant to younger adults to have them want to consider joining

  7. Challenges We Face • Many of our clergy do not know the full extent of what we do • Councils not being fully integrated with parishes – many GKs do not have strong relationships with their pastors • Leadership that is resistant to change • Negative feelings toward/lack of trust in the Catholic Church • Declining Church attendance

  8. What We Must Do • Be the organization that “fills the void” for men during these difficult times being faced by the Church • The organization that provides fraternity and spiritual support to strengthen families and local communities – and help build back support for our Church, Bishops and Priests • Be leaders that step up, instill confidence and lead through the challenges we face. No excuses

  9. What We Must Do • Instill in council leaders the importance of change – and being catalysts for change • Develop a clear, strong brand image and positioning • Develop Positioning and Marketing plan with agency partner • Continue to target younger men and Hispanics/Ethnic groups as priority target prospects – put them in council leadership roles • Focus on spirituality and male/family faith formation as key reasons to join • Promote “family friendly councils”

  10. What We Must Do • Make recruitment, retention and member engagement top priorities • Our workshops this weekend will focus on all of these areas • Get all councils recruiting active • Work a strong jurisdiction member retention process • Work recruiting best practice strategies • Focus on the “why” message! Why become a Knight of Columbus? • Get the “Talk Track” Right • Tell your personal story – why did you become a Knight? • How have you benefited from your membership?

  11. What We Must Do My “Talk Track” “Your membership in KofC gives you the opportunity to help people, change lives and save lives – and support our Church, Bishops and Priests at a time when they need our support more than ever. Does this sound like an organization that you would like to be part of?”

  12. What We Must Do • We are all called to evangelize! • Become a more faith-filled Catholic – better father, husband, Catholic • Strengthen family bonds • Support the church • Support people in need in our local communities and in the world • Help people, change lives and save lives! Promote the WHY of membership to prospects

  13. What We Must Do Develop strong relationships with the clergy • Let them know all the things that we do – and solicit their help! • Encourage GKs to meet with their pastors to discuss specific Faith in Action programs that are right for each parish and council!

  14. What We Must Do • Maximize awareness of our key programs locally • Our Communications Department is here to help! • Promote awareness of and participation in our Faith in Action programs

  15. Getting off to a Fast Start • Make sure you have all DDs and Directors in place • Train them - and hold them accountable! • Don’t let councils give up the Summer • Appoint a State Communications Director • Make maximizing visibility locally a priority for all councils • Commit to recruiting younger and more diverse members • Promote Online Membership and use of the Online Prospect Form tool to engage/sign up prospects at council events • Promote wide adoption of Faith in Action programs • Meet with your Bishops! • - Solicit their support in building membership!

  16. Remember • Change is not easy! • But…BE and LEAD the change you want to create! • Encourage State, District and Council leadership to be the “catalysts for change” • Encourage them to try new things – and show them how they will benefit! • If you keep doing what you are doing, you will keep getting what you are getting! • Communicate – regularly • Share best practices frequently

  17. Thank You! • For all you do – everyday – to grow the Order! • You have the opportunity to do something special! • Make 2019-2020 your best year yet!
