The Food Act 1981 • Illegal to sell any food or drink not fit for human consumption or that is contaminated. • Personal hygiene and sound food storage and preparation. • Packaging needs to be fit for purpose. • Food labelling – cannot be inaccurate and misleading.
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 • Prevent harm to employees or others while at work. • Hazards need to b e identified and needs to me Eliminated, Minimised or Controlled. • Hazard is any activity, occurrence or situation which is or could be a source of harm (physical or mental).
The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 • Employees can be held responsible! • You must ensure that “no action or inaction of yours causes harm to any other person.” • You are covered if what you do is in accordance with the establishment’s requirements and with legislation (your employer is responsible for your training).
