  5. Open access for every child • grants and reduced fees for • parents with small/moderate income • families with more children at the musicschool or with children playing morethan 1 instrument • group lessons and class music facilitate broad access to music education

  6. Special programs for young children • I) Infants • parents-children-groups • cooperation between nurseries (ecole maternelle) and music schools • cooperation of music teachers and nursery teachers (team-teaching / tandem)

Special programs for young children • II) Elementary school • diverse programs for broad access to music education, like JeKi (NRW), Pyramide (NIE), MoMo (NRW), Singing/Choral Programs (Neuss & Münster) • class music (winds/brass, strings, mixed) • cooperation of music and regular schools (team-teaching/tandem)

Balance of broad participation and talent development • „Pyramide“-System: broad basis, talent scouting, talent development (by more / additional lessons, special courses, ensembles / orchestra) • competitions („Jugend musiziert“) and their appendages (at regional, provincial, national level) • special departments for preparing students in music schools to access conservatoire / university (SVA = PreCollege)

Relation music schools / schools of arts • in VdM: approx. 70 schools are combined music schools and schools of arts • furthermore several music schools offer also arts courses (without mentioning it in their name) • continuous or project-oriented cooperation between some music schools and schools of arts

  10. Audience training • music schools realize audience training by making music (playing and singing, in ensembles and orchestras) • LEOPOLD – VdMs Media Prize for good music for children (since 1997) • a huge number of concerts, musicals, other performances for children and other (young) people are offerd every week as a guide for young people towards music
