  3. 80 % rule For a minor80.1, 70.8 0.8 x 2.0std units = 1.6std units ie course score will be1 x 80.1 80.1 plus0.6 x 70.8 42.5 = 122.6/1.6 = 76.6

  4. 80 % rule For a 4.0 unit major 80.1, 70.8, 75.0 & 68.0 0.8 x 4.0 std units = 3.2 std units ie course score will be 1 x 80.1 80.1 plus 1 x 75.0 75.0 plus 1 x 70.8 70.8 plus 0.2 x 68.0 13.6 = 239.5/3.2 = 74.8

What is the AST? • AST - ACT Scaling Test • A test attempted by all ACT Year 12 students wishing to obtain a University Admissions Index (UAI). i.e. All students studying ‘T’ packages. • Measures a range of general skills considered to be relevant to success in a variety of courses at university. • Used as a moderating device between courses and across colleges

  7. Step 1: Raw score plus AST results

  8. Step 2: Multiply each course score by 2 and add 10

  9. Step 3: Calculate Initial Vi or Scaling Score Average of best 3.6 course scores plus 0.2 of AST

  11. Step 4: Recalculation of Scaled Scores From calculations involving each course separately new multiplying and adding factors are found. A new scaled score is then calculated using these parameters. The new scaled score is calculated once again from the raw score.

  12. Step 5: Calculate a new Vi (2nd) Average of the best 3.6 plus 0.2 of AST

  14. ….and so the process continues until the scaled scores stop changing.

  15. To calculate the Tertiary Entrance Score (TES) Take the best 3.6 ie 3 best majors plus either 0.6 of a major or a whole minor. 195 Physics 192 Maths 176 IT 0.6 x 175 105 Art 668 TES

  16. The ranking of this score against all other scores gives a Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER). The University Admission Index (UAI) is obtained by combining the cohort who completed a Tertiary package and the age cohort of the same students who started Year 10. TES 668 UAI 97.0
