  5. Our Structure • PARO is in the hands of the membership through the colleagues you elect to our General Council and Board of Directors. • General Council elections take place this summer. 100 total positions available!

  7. Support when & where you need it • Residency can be stressful and difficult at times. PARO has a number of supports and programs to help you. • Resource for contract questions • Policies to ensure optimal success in training • Social events to allow for networking and sharing experiences • Help if you are emotionally distressed • 1-866-HELP-DOC

  8. PARO-CAHO Collective Agreement Covers entitlements such as:t hours • Compensation and Benefits • Vacation and other leaves • Call schedules, duty hours • Pregnancy and Parental Leave & Benefits • Call stipends

  9. Before You Start • Obtain your educational registration (license) from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) • Obtain your medical liability protection from the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) • Get your needed immunizations

  10. Resident Loan Interest Relief Program (RLIRP) • This MOHLTC Program provides eligible medical residents to defer monthly payments on federal and provincial government student loans during residency. Loans must be unconsolidated. • Participants must agree to practice for 5 years in Ontario (no geographic restriction). • Eligibility/program details on our Website Prepping for Residency • Any questions can be directed to rlirp@ontario.ca

Moving Advice • Before deciding on a place to live, inquire about: hydro, water pressure, noise from neighbours, air circulation/conditioning, screens on windows, working electrical sockets, pets, parking, ability to paint, storage locker • Make sure your new address is easily accessible to: transportation, grocery stores, work, etc. • Arrange to have unwanted furniture picked up ahead of time • Take unwanted clothing and furniture to Goodwill before you move • Start writing down all of the people and organizations that you receive mail from in advance so that you can update them on your new address
