Mill Hill Residents’ Association Open Meeting Tuesday 29th January 2013
Agenda for tonight • Introductions (8:05 to 8:10) • Why join the MHRA? (8:10 to 8:15) •Current and upcoming issues (8:15 to 8:30) • Open discussion (8:30 to 9:15) • Conclusion (9:15 to 9:30)
Why Join the MHRA? Are you… • Passionate about preserving and enhancing Mill Hill’s local services, facilities and identity • Keen to understand and shape how local government plans will impact NW7 • Committed to maintain our green and historic areas • Interested in meeting and working with people who share your views and concerns If so, join MHRA and help make a difference to Mill Hill
Current and upcoming issues • The list is not exhaustive but includes the following: • Pay by phone parking system • Roadworks – especially at Mill Hill Circus • Saracens parking issues on Match days • Future of Mill Hill Fire Station • Crime and anti-social behaviour • Police cutbacks – what is the impact? • Inglis Barracks redevelopment • Public transport – Buses, Thameslink & Northern line
Pay by phone parking • Possibly one of the most unpopular schemes ever introduced by Barnet Council • Expensive and cumbersome to use • There are vouchers available but where? • Talk of introducing credit/debit card reading machines but when? • Is the high cost of parking killing our local businesses?
Mill Hill Circus Traffic Lights Roadworks due to complete on 14th February…
Saracens Parking on Match days • The first match was held on Sunday • 3,700 attended • No parking issues observed in CPZ • Mill Hill Broadway full up, no parking available • Ground capacity is 10,000 but Saracens want to increase it to 15,000 for Heineken Cup matches • Will the local infrastructure cope?
Mill Hill Fire Station • Safe for now, escaped this round of cuts • One tender and cul-de-sac location make it vulnerable • Plays a key role however in M1 Fire and Rescue
Mayor’s proposed Police cuts • For the whole of Barnet borough only Colindale station will remain open 24 hours a day • Crime reporting by phone or email • “the Police will come to you” • Safer Neighbourhood Teams to be reduced • The Mayor is consulting communities about these cuts so send your views to Boris! MOPAC consultation deadline is 6th March
Inglis Barracks Redevelopment • Huge population influx when scheme complete – 2000+ new homes • New primary school provision • 240 Bus to be re-routed through new development • Will existing infrastructure cope?
Public Transport • Thameslink services to Mill Hill Broadway continue to be overcrowded especially in the evenings • 4 car trains at peak times despite 12-car platforms in place • Largest numbers of passengers on stopping trains appear to get off at Mill Hill Broadway • Mill Hill East appears to be safe for now because of the Inglis Barracks Redevelopment • Car Parking is more difficult as its no longer possible to park on Bittacy Hill • Mill Hill East station car park prices are up again
Joining the MHRA • Our annual subscription per household is £10 or £5 if you are over 65 • In return we hope to run regular meetings on topics of local interest • Regular newsletter • Your voice, your watchdog • We need new members to achieve all this!
