  2. Agenda 1. Background Problem Statement Deliverables Customer/Engineering Requirements Benchmarking 2. System Analysis Concept & Architecture Development Functional/Engineering Analysis Risk Assessment Test Plan

  3. Section One Background

  4. Problem Statement - Audio amplitude control for motion picture shows. -Maintain the quality and dynamics of the sound. -Improve flexibility while maintaining audio quality. -Maintain usability that of previous devices.

  5. Deliverables • A working prototype • All design files (ex/ source code and libraries) • Documentation with board schematics and board artwork • Test results verifying proper functionality

  6. Customer Needs

  7. Engineering Requirements

  8. Traceability Matrix

  9. Benchmarking / Feasibility • Processors: • -MSP430x6xx series: 25MHz, 25 MIPS, 567 instructions per sample @ 44.1KHz sampling. • -PIC24F16KL402 FAMILY: 32MHz, 16 MIPS,363 instructions per sample @ 44.1KHz sampling. • -Ashly Protea™ 4.8SP: twin 120MHz Motorola DSP56362 high performance DSP processors, 100/120 MIPS, 2268 instructions per sample per channel @ 44.1KHz sampling. (Additional Features beyond compression) • Standard Attack and Release times: • -Ashly CLX-52: Attack 200μS – 20ms, Release 100ms – 3 Seconds. • -DBX 1066: Attack 3 -.04 dB/mSec, Release 250 - 5 dB/Sec. • -There is roughly 23μs between samples @ 44.1KHz.

  10. Benchmarking / Feasibility • Microcontroller Requirements • AD Converter (not mandatory) • DA Converter (If not then two PWM outputs) • LCD/LED Support • Hardware Interrupts (2-3) • Timers (3) • I2C buss • Fast, at least 350 instructions per sample at 44.1kHz • GPIO (6-8)

  11. Section Two System Analysis

  12. Functional Analysis

  13. Concept Development

  14. Concept Development

  15. Engineering Analysis

  16. Architecture

  17. Risk Assessment Bryan - Digital system risks (display, microcontroller) Jeffrey - Auto Mode and Noise William - System and Power (Project management, I/O issues) Michael - Electrical Failures (short circuit, shock, fire)

  18. Test Plan • Quantitative • software tests signal quality • ex/ Audacity • signal quality traits, threshold, attack, ratio, etc. • Qualitative • humans test audio quality • group of audio enthusiasts and ordinary people • they will rate audio quality on 1-10 scale • average should be above certain number
